A view on CIH’s shared ownership 2.1 report

We’re keen for shared ownership to be seen as a solution to the housing crisis and the industry is making strides to ensure shared ownership works for the broadest range of people that it’s designed for. 

“The report’s findings point to a certain level of awareness of shared ownership, but the public’s understanding of what buying through the tenure involves is limited. To build a more mature market for it, more lenders need to be in the market and planning red-tape should be relaxed. It’s also crucial that misconceptions are challenged around shared ownership to improve demand. Steps in this direction would help to offer a route to owning a home for those who are struggling to get on the housing ladder via the traditional route.
