Construction of new 100% affordable housing development in Tadley is well underway

Construction of a housing development at Newchurch Road, Tadley, which will bring 36 new affordable homes to the area, is now in progress.

Housing association Aster Group is building the scheme in partnership with E.G. Carter & Co Ltd. and will be delivering over and above the local council’s planning policy requirement for 40 per cent affordable homes on new home developments. 100 percent of the much-needed homes on this development will be offered as either shared ownership or rented properties.

27 of the properties will be two, three and four bedroom homes for shared ownership with the remaining nine homes consisting of four two bedroom houses, four three bedroom houses and one four bedroom house, allocated as rental properties.

Basingstoke and Deane Council approved Aster’s plans for the scheme, which makes use of  brownfield land.

The development incorporates a design based on community feedback and local housing need, with 15 per cent of the homes meeting ‘Lifetime Homes’ standards, meaning they are easily adaptable for lifetime use.

Amanda Williams, group development director at Aster Group said: “This new development will play a key part in addressing the housing need in this sought-after location where people can be priced out of the market. Our vision is that everyone has a home, so we hope that this 100 per cent affordable development will enable many to rent or buy at a price that is realistic and manageable.

“We’re pleased to be working alongside Basingstoke and Deane Council and our contractor partner, E.G Carter & Co Ltd, as we work towards completing these much-needed affordable homes by the end of 2019.”

To support more developments like this and do its bit to increase the supply of housing across the South, Aster plans to invest £2 billion over seven years on over 10,700 new homes.

The site is the first scheme delivered with E G Carter & Co Ltd through Aster’s contractor partnering arrangement with them and Galliford Try Partnership worth £150m. The partnership will deliver a land-led programme over the five year arrangement with year on year increase of delivery leading up to 500 new homes across the south of England each year.

Mathew Vye, associate director, partnership housing at E.G Carter & Co Ltd, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Aster Group as part of their framework for a second year. This is our ninth development with Aster and we are looking forward to continuing our collaborative partnership developing new homes throughout the South of England under the contractor framework agreement.”

The scheme is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
