Aster Group delivers much needed affordable homes to rural Somerset village

Aster Group has entered into contract with Strongvox Homes to build 12 affordable properties for local people to bring much needed new homes to the village of Milborne Port in Somerset.

With properties due for completion in autumn 2016, Milborne Place is situated in the south east corner of Somerset and offers its residents close links to local amenities and the village’s primary school.

The development on Wheathill Lane will see a range of 38 two, three, four and five-bedroom homes and flats delivered to the area and is being built on the site of a former garden centre.

The affordable homes, delivered by Aster, are a mix of three three-bedroom homes, two two-bedroom homes for shared ownership and three one-bedroom and three two-bedroom apartments for affordable rent.

Aster will also be delivering a larger five-bedroom home especially for a local family whose specific needs cannot be met through their existing accommodation. Aster has even involved them in the process to ensure the family’s individual requirements can be met, for example installing a wet room upstairs.

David Luke, regional development director for Aster, said: “We’re always looking to build new relationships with fellow developers and this fresh partnership with Strongvox Homes enables us to bring the new homes to Milborne Port that are so strongly needed.

“It’s our vision that everyone has a home and with the average home costing £255,407 in Somerset, many people in our rural villages are being priced out of living in their local communities.

“The homes we provide are really important to support the sustainability and economy of country villages and local schools, shops and services.”

With over 28,000 homes across the south including new developments in Keynsham, Taunton and Creech St Michael, Aster has a strong presence and experience in delivering new homes in Somerset.
