Aster Group and Community Land Trust bring new homes to Chagford

A new development of affordable homes has been unveiled in Chagford, West Devon.

Aster Group is working in partnership with Chagford Community Land Trust (CLT) to bring the much-needed affordable new homes at ‘Bellacouch Meadows’ to the local community.

The 28 properties consist of 22 homes for affordable rent and six homes for shared ownership.

The mix of one-bedroom flats and two and three-bedroom houses are available to people with a local connection only, ensuring that local people benefit from the new homes.

The homes are being built on Dartmoor National Park and it is thought that it will be the largest development in the history of the National Park.

The development forms part of a wider ‘masterplan’ for the village and will include a new car park, employment units and a new fire station.

Aster Group will maintain the homes and manage the tenancies. Karl Hine, development manager – community housing, for Aster said:

“We’re pleased to be working with Chagford CLT on these new homes for local people.

“Affordable homes in rural areas are often hard to find, so we’re happy that through our partnership with the CLT we can bring much-needed affordable homes to local people in Chagford. This is the first development in a National Park that we’ve worked on and we’re excited to be part of such an innovative community-led project.”

Dr Roger Stokes, Chairman of Chagford Community Land Trust said: “We are delighted that all the hard work put into this partnership project by ourselves along with Aster Group, C G Fry, Chagford Parish Council, WDBC, DNPA and the Wessex Community Land Trust Project has now come to fruition.

“It is hoped that these affordable properties will enable local people to remain living in Chagford."

The homes will be built by CG Fry & Son Ltd and the development is forecast to be completed by autumn 2020.
