Tea party at Crammer Court to celebrate resident’s 100th birthday

Celebrations were under way at Crammer Court in Devizes last week as one of its residents, Mary Phylis Ponting, turned 100.

A tea party was thrown for Mrs Ponting by colleagues at the Aster Group run extra care scheme on Church Walk in Devizes.

Mrs Ponting received a card from the Queen wishing her a happy birthday and was also visited by Devizes mayor Judy Rose.

The festivities took place on December 10 in the communal area of Crammer Court where she was joined by family and friends.

Mrs Ponting said: “It was a fantastic day and I was honoured that the mayor came to wish me a happy birthday. My four brothers and sisters all passed away when I was younger, and I feel specially blessed to be celebrating my 100th birthday.

“I am grateful to have seen and experienced so much in my life. A couple of years ago I was visited by a genealogist who recorded my life history which was particularly special. One thing that always surprises me is how much things cost nowadays compared to when I was younger!”

Sarah Durrans, Regional Director at Aster Group, said: “It was lovely to see Mrs Ponting and her family celebrate her special day in style. We always try to make sure that our customers have the opportunity to share these occasions surrounded by their loved ones and so using the communal area at Crammer Court was a perfect spot.”
