Owning a home in Truro can become a reality thanks to Aster Group

New collection of affordable homes launched

A rare opportunity to buy a new affordable home in the city of Truro, has been unveiled by housing association, Aster Group. Copperfields in Truro is a collection of new homes recently launched, with 54 affordable homes now available from Aster. Proving popular since launching its first phase of 21 properties, eight of the homes have already been reserved.

Amy Nettleton, assistant development director – sales and marketing at Aster, explained the different ways you could secure a home here: “Half of the homes available at Copperfields are being offered as affordable rent and half can be bought using shared ownership. There’s lots of confusion around shared ownership as a way to buy, but it is a really powerful enabler to help you get on the ladder or get a home if you find yourself buying on your own later in life for instance.

She continued, “Essentially, through shared ownership you’ll only need to find a 5 per cent deposit. Then you can purchase a share (from 25 to 75 per cent) of the home and then pay us rent on the remaining value that you owe. Based on a 40 per cent share with shared ownership, it could bring the price of these homes down to as little as £84,000*.

Amy explained that buying a home through shared ownership isn’t limited to doing it alone. Some people are considering other routes to get a property of their own. She said, “We’ve had some customers buying a home with friends to make home ownership a reality. We think this could be popular with students from the nearby universities looking to set down their roots here after their studies. Buying as ‘tenants in common’ is definitely worth exploring if you’d consider embarking on your home ownership journey with a friend.”

The homes available at Copperfields include a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes, so there’s something to suit different needs and stages of life; from first-time buyers through to those looking to downsize or set up on their own.

Kelly McCabe, managing director from mortgage provider, TMP said there’s never been a better time to buy, “With interest rates at an historic low, both shorter and longer-term fixed mortgages are offering fantastically affordable rates. Couple this with the flexibility of shared ownership, the options to buyers are as flexible and affordable as they have ever been.

"With banks and building societies being so keen to lend, not only are rates attractive, but also their willingness to understand customers’ complex situations. Zero hours contracts, benefit income and low deposits are all things that don’t stop the dream of homeownership becoming a reality.”

The location of the homes is perfect for all buyers. The modern homes are set between the charming Cornish coastline and countryside, just outside Truro - Cornwall’s county town and Britain’s southernmost mainland city. With its beautiful architecture, history, culture, ongoing festival programmes and shopping, there is plenty to see and do.

The area has an array of food markets, independent traders, boutique bookshops and delicatessens. There’s also a range of quality nurseries and state and independent schools, as well as Truro College – ideal for growing families.
