New housing scheme offering 100% affordable homes gets green light from council

A new housing development has been given the green light in Tadley. Award-winning housing association, Aster Group will be providing 36 new homes on Newchurch Road on the site where Burnham Copse Infants School was previously situated. Delivering over and above the local council’s planning policy requirement for 40% affordable homes on new home developments, 100% of the homes in this collection of homes will be offered as either affordable rent or shared ownership properties.

The homes, which will be delivered through Aster Group’s Contractor Partnering Contract and constructed by E G Carter & Co Ltd, will comprise of two, three and four-bedroom houses and are due for completion in late 2019.Further to planning permission being granted by Basingstoke and Deane Council, site clearance and construction work has now commenced.

Sensitively designed, the collection of homes has been tailored to meet local housing needs, with 15% of the homes meeting ‘Lifetime Homes’ standards, meaning they are easily adaptable for lifetime use.

Amanda Williams, group development director at Aster Group said: “This new site in Hampshire will play a key part in addressing the housing need in Tadley. This is a very sought-after location, but like many other areas, people can be priced out of the market. Our vision is that everyone has a home, so we hope our offer of providing 100 per cent affordable homes will enable many to rent or buy at a price that is realistic. We look forward to working closely with Basingstoke and Deane Council and our trusted contractor partner, E G Carter. “

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration, Arts and Heritage, Councillor Terri Reid said: “I’m very pleased to hear that all 36 homes on this site in Tadley will be either affordable rent or shared ownership properties. There is a real need for affordable homes in the borough including homes to help people get the first step on the property ladder.”
