Support for our independent living customers

Our independent living officers are on hand to support customers living in our independent living schemes. One customer recently got in touch to share their story about the help he received:

Mr A confided that he had recently been a victim of fraud, which had left him without a car and he had lost £400.

At the time, Mr A had just a banana left to eat. His independent living officer spoke to the local GP surgery and the church food bank and arranged for him to receive a food parcel straight away.

We also gave him a food voucher so that he could buy some meals for himself in between pay days.

He was referred to our financial wellbeing team who gave him budget support as well as arranging for some furniture to be delivered to his home. We also made sure our customer had a weekly welfare check carried out by Dorset police.

Our customer said: “I’m extremely happy, and the support and financial assistance with budgeting has been a very positive experience. I’m really grateful.”

If you live in one of our schemes and need help managing your money, speak to your independent living officer who will help you get support.
