Salamander training programme coming to Wiltshire residents

Salamander is a tailored development programme designed to promote empowerment in a positive environment whilst also encouraging team work and the supporting of others.

The sessions will be held at Devizes Fire Station (Hopton Park Industrial Estate, Hopton Road, Devizes, SN10 2EY) and run by fully trained, operational fire-fighters who work hard to share their knowledge and skills with young people and provide positive role models for them.

The programme is open to any Aster residents aged 18+ living in Devizes and the surrounding areas. Please note that due to the nature of the activities, participants will need to be physically fit and able bodied. The course will be limited to 12 participants.

The course will include nationally recognised certificates in first aid and health & safety:

  • Hydrants and pumping water
  • Safe use of ladders
  • Road traffic collision extrication
  • Road safety
  • First aid
  • Employability skills
  • Life skills.

The programme is designed to change each participant’s attitude and behaviour by challenging them to:

  • Adopt a new set of values
  • Address consequences of anti-social behaviour and fire setting
  • Co-operate with others
  • See the advantages of improving their own learning and performance
  • Gain self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Improve their communication skills.
