Awaab’s Law: A turning point for safe social housing

This month, a new law known as Awaab’s Law came into force, marking a shift in how social landlords respond to health hazards in your home.

Named in memory of Awaab Ishak, a two-year-old boy who tragically died in 2020 due to prolonged exposure to mould in his family’s social housing flat, the law is designed to prevent tragedies like this from ever happening again.

Awaab’s Law means landlords like us need to respond in set time frames when you report damp, mould and condensation. We’re ready for this and it gives us a chance to show our commitment to providing you with safe, well-maintained homes and modern reliable customer services.

We’re well-prepared for this transition. Over the past few years, we’ve shared lots of information about how we will respond to mould and condensation in your home. We’ve also carried out extensive training to ensure that everyone at Aster is ready to meet the new standards.

To report any issues in your home, please call us on 0333 400 8222 or via MyAster.
