Make a plan for your pet
We all want the best care for ourselves and our loved ones – and for many of us, that includes our pets. Since lockdown, pet ownership in the UK has increased by around 50%. At the same time, our NHS is under more pressure than ever, particularly with an ageing population and growing demand for services.
When someone is admitted to hospital unexpectedly, the NHS has a duty of care not just for the person, but also for their property – and that includes pets. While medical professionals do everything they can to look after us, they can't provide the care our pets may urgently need during our time away.
That’s where we all come in.
What You Can Do
Please take a few minutes today to plan ahead:
- Print out and fill in the RSPCA Emergency Pet Care Form – which can be found here. Fill in the contact details of a trusted friend, neighbour, or family member who could look after your pet in an emergency.
- Stick the completed form on your fridge – a place emergency services know to check.
- On the back of the form, you can include other helpful information – such as where to find your pet’s vaccination records, grab bag, or any medication they need.
