How to maintain your boiler
We all know what it’s like to be without heating and hot water when your boiler isn’t working and all you want is for it to be fixed.
However, there is one simple step you could take to maintain your boiler and help to avoid it breaking down.
As the weather gets colder if you haven’t already run your heating why not test it now to make sure it is working.
Make sure you run your boiler once a month for a few minutes to help keep the system in working order.
Doing this will help to prevent parts from seizing up.
Your internal stopcock lets you turn off the water supply to your home in an emergency, like a burst pipe or leak and now is a good time to remind yourself where to find it. Knowing where it is and how to use it can prevent water damage in your home. It’s usually under the kitchen sink, but it could also be in:
- A kitchen cupboard
- Downstairs bathroom or toilet
- Garage or utility room
- Under the stairs.
To turn the water supply off, turn it clockwise and turn anti-clockwise to turn it back on. Do this slowly and never force it as over-tightening can cause damage.
