Changes to our pet policy
We know that pets can play an important role in people’s wellbeing, companionship and day-to-day life. Because of this, we’ve updated the way customers can apply for permission to keep a dog or cat in their home.
Previously, customers living in flats or communal blocks were automatically unable to apply for permission through MyAster due to their property type. Following this change, customers can now submit a pet request application for review by our housing teams.
Each request will still be considered individually, taking into account factors such as:
- The type and size of the property
- Shared or communal spaces
- The type and number of pets requested
- Any potential impact on neighbours.
This change reflects wider changes happening across the housing sector and helps us take a more balanced and compassionate approach, while still making sure homes and communities remain safe and suitable for everyone.
You can now apply through MyAster, where requests will be reviewed by the relevant housing team.
