Bjorn Howard, Group chief executive officer comments on appointment of Stuart Andrew to Housing Minister

“The position of housing minister has been something of a revolving door in recent years. Despite this, it’s reassuring that the government’s approach to housing has remained largely stable and without any significant policy upheaval. At a crucial time for the sector, it’s vital that this trend of consistency continues.

“Last week’s Levelling Up White Paper placed housing firmly at the centre of the government’s plans. It’s crucial that personnel changes don’t cause delays to the planning reforms and the detail needed on how communities will be more involved in local development. There are some fundamental changes on the horizon and it’s essential the housing sector is given enough time to understand the impact and plan accordingly.

“The government is making positive steps forward on affordable housing and I welcome the far greater focus on overlooked towns and regions across the entire country. This, combined with recognition of the important role shared ownership has to play in breaking down barriers to ownership, shows that policy is continuing to move in the right direction.”
