Bringing our culture to life
Over the past year, we’ve spent a lot of time listening to colleagues, to our leaders and to our customers and communities. What we’ve heard is simple but important: how we work matters just as much as what we deliver. The experience people have here - how it feels to work, grow and collaborate at Aster - shapes the difference we can make.
That’s why we refreshed The Aster Way: our cultural code for how we work, lead and behave.
At its heart, The Aster Way is our culture in action. It sets out:
- The commitments we make to each other, and to our customers and communities
- A practical guide for everyday decisions and interactions
- A shared standard for trust, respect, integrity and professionalism
- A clear expression of our purpose: enabling better lives
It’s not something to file away. It’s something we practise, day in and day out. We want Aster to be a place where people feel trusted, supported and able to do their best work. We’re proud of our early leadership in flexible working, and flexibility remains a core part of the Aster Offer. It recognises that people contribute in different ways and in different places.
Trust sits at the centre and flexibility grows from that. Trust also grows when we communicate openly and create space for questions, challenge and honest conversations. Restorative Practice helps us build those strong relationships and ensures our behaviours genuinely reflect our values. Our leaders are visible and accountable, and all of us share responsibility for doing what we say we’ll do.
We’re committed to giving people clarity, confidence and the tools to succeed. We want our leaders to empower rather than micromanage, and learning and development is an expectation, not an afterthought. Feedback is part of how we support each other and is expected to be shared with kindness, honesty and the intention to help people thrive - not to shame, or to blame.
Diversity and Inclusion sits at the heart of how we work. We’re stronger because of the range of experiences and perspectives across our organisation, and because we listen to understand.
We’re also clear that we’re not perfect. The experience of “what it feels like around here” isn’t yet consistent everywhere, and some colleagues have a better day‑to‑day experience than others. Acknowledging that matters and it’s why The Aster Way is so important. It gives us a shared foundation to build on, so every team and every colleague can feel the same sense of trust, clarity and support.
Great work happens when we get rid of the hassle in our way. The Aster Way encourages us to simplify, challenge “how it’s always been done” and design processes that make life easier. When we remove unnecessary complexity, people feel energised, not drained.
The Aster Way is our commitment to creating a culture we can all show up and do our best work. It’s about creating a culture together that feels fair and consistent, wherever you work and whatever your role.
