New affordable housing plans announced for Marlborough

Aster Group has announced early plans to build new affordable homes in Marlborough.

The proposed development will bring much needed affordable homes to the rural area of Wiltshire and will be built on land already owned by the housing association on St Martins Road, replacing York Place.

Sarah Durrans, regional director for Aster Group, said: “We provide a mix of affordable housing options to meet different customer needs and this site will be no exception.

“If planning is agreed, these new homes would provide much needed affordable housing in the area and will go some way to meeting the affordable housing need in and around north Wiltshire.”

Following a recent review, York Place was identified as underperforming and requiring significant investment to bring it up to the standard the Group expects to provide for its customers.

Residents currently living at York Place will be supported by Aster to find and move into alternative homes that meet their individual needs.

Sarah added: “We’re not making any immediate changes at York Place and we’re still in the very early stages. However, we do understand that any changes might be unsettling for our residents which is why we're committed to working closely with our customers to keep them up to date every step of the way, while helping them move to alternative homes.”

A planning application for the new affordable homes is expected to be submitted later this year.
