Development of 100% affordable housing nearly complete in Wiltshire village

Local housing association Aster Group has started to welcome customers to its new housing development providing 100% affordable housing for a rural community in Wiltshire.

The development is bringing much-needed affordable homes to the village of West Lavington, built on land already owned by Aster on Mill Lane.

The housing association’s new development, The Hedges, includes 19 affordable homes provided for the community, including four homes for affordable rent and 15 available through shared ownership.

Located near the village’s play park and village hall, the homes have been built using a variety of energy efficiency measures including air source heat pumps, EV charging points for electric cars and solar panels.

The development offers a range of one, two and three-bedroomed houses and maisonettes within the village and offers people the chance to get onto – or back on to - the property ladder through shared ownership.

Buyers purchase a share of a property and pay rent on the remaining share. This reduces the size of the initial deposit required and if they want to, purchasers can buy more shares in their property (known as staircasing), eventually leading to outright ownership. Only four shared ownership homes remain available with prices currently starting at £54,000 for a 40% share on a one-bedroom maisonette. 

The rental homes are allocated by Wiltshire Council to those registered on its housing waiting list, Homes4Wiltshire.
