Aster Group launches apprenticeships to inspire next generation of talent

Local housing association Aster Group has launched five new trade apprenticeship opportunities to encourage people to begin a career as an electrician. The successful applicants will be supported over two years to work towards a Level 3 apprenticeship in Installation and Maintenance.

Jess Scull, Apprenticeship and Early Careers Lead at Aster Group, said: “Our apprenticeships are always very popular and we’re looking forward to seeing people’s applications. We are committed to creating clear and inspiring pathways into the social housing sector.”

The new apprenticeship places at Aster follow a new campaign the housing provider has launched in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), aimed at showcasing the wide range of rewarding career opportunities available within the social housing sector.

The campaign is being delivered through Unifrog, a careers platform used by thousands of schools and colleges across the UK. Designed to reach young people at a pivotal moment in their career decision-making, the initiative highlights the variety of roles on offer within social housing, while showcasing apprenticeships and trade roles as high quality, accessible entry routes.

Featured in the campaign is Harriet, who lives in Weymouth, Dorset and recently qualified as a gas and heating engineer. In the video she shares more about her role as a trade at Aster, which owns and manages more than 10,700 homes across Dorset and employs over 450 people living in the area.

Her advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship? “Go for it. Jump in with both feet. It’s not as daunting as it seems - everyone wants you to achieve.”

Jess added: “Partnering with the CIH and Unifrog enables us to reach young people at a crucial stage in their career journey and highlight the many rewarding opportunities available in social housing. Our sector offers meaningful, purpose driven roles, and we’re proud to support the next generation as they begin their careers.”

Jen Carter, Employer Partnerships Manager at Unifrog, said: “Unifrog is committed to levelling the playing field for every student and are delighted to be partnering with Aster and the CIH to shine a light on the diverse opportunities in the housing sector. The new video with Harriet shows her drive to support residents and perfectly illustrates why she’s so proud of her career pathway."

Sarah Dunkerley, CIH’s Director of Membership and Professional Services, commented: “The CIH is delighted to be working with Unifrog, and partner organisations to showcase the housing sector’s diverse and rewarding career opportunities, encouraging students to be the next generation of housing professionals that choose housing and a career that makes a difference.”

The closing date for apprentice roles is Sunday 7 June 2026. Find out more about the apprenticeship opportunities at Aster here: https://www.aster.co.uk/careers/early-careers
