Affordable homes boost for local people in Holt, Wiltshire
Aster Group has exchanged contracts with Bewley Homes to deliver 26 affordable homes at the Melksham Road development in Holt, Wiltshire, marking a significant step forward in providing high-quality, much-needed housing for local families.
The affordable homes - comprising a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties for affordable rent and shared ownership, have been designed to blend into the wider development. They form part of a larger scheme of 88 homes that received delegated planning approval last July. Construction on the site is expected to begin early this year, with the first homes ready for occupation later in the year.
The development has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the character of Holt while delivering wider community benefits. Plans include generous public open space, a new children’s play area, and a community orchard, all intended to create a welcoming and sustainable environment for future customers. In addition to providing new homes, the scheme will contribute to essential local services and facilities through Section 106 contributions and the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

Andrew Brooks, Managing Director at Bewley Homes, welcomed the agreement with Aster Group.
Andrew commented: “This is very positive news for local people, particularly in the context of the severe shortage of affordable homes in the district and we look forward to working closely with Aster to build 26 new affordable homes.
“Our design approach has sought to capture the essence of Holt’s character while providing much-needed new homes, biodiversity enhancements, and inclusive community spaces. We’re proud of the scheme that has come forward and look forward to delivering these new homes as part of the village’s future.”
Bewley Homes has been progressing towards the start of construction of the development as it continues its commitment to high-quality design and thoughtful placemaking across Wiltshire and the south west.
Commenting on the impact these affordable homes will make to the community of Holt, Aster Group Chief Investment Officer, Amanda Williams, said: “We know the difference an affordable home can make - it provides long-term security and keeps people connected to the communities they love.
“We’re proud to play our part in tackling the national housing crisis by delivering affordable homes that enable local people to stay close to friends and family. This development will provide homes for individuals and families to both rent through the local council and get onto – or back onto - the property ladder.”
Bewley Homes was represented in the transaction by Laurence Mussett Associates, with Tremain Powell Partnership acting as Employers Agent on behalf of Aster Group.
