New affordable homes coming soon to Hungerford

Aster Group has announced it will soon be launching 12 new affordable homes in Berkshire for purchase through the shared ownership scheme.

The new development of two and three-bedroom homes will bring much-needed affordable properties to the area where average house prices are £372,985, according to Rightmove1. Prices for a 40% share on a three-bed house launching in the first allocation of homes at Lancaster Park are anticipated to start from £152,0002.

Shared ownership enables buyers to secure a home with just a 5 percent deposit. They can then purchase a share of the home and pay Aster rent on the remaining value that they owe. If they want to, purchasers can buy more shares in their property (known as staircasing), eventually leading to outright home ownership.

The first allocation of shared ownership homes at Lancaster Park are due to be ready for occupation around the autumn. In addition, Aster will also be delivering 28 homes for social rent, comprising a mix of one, two and three-bedroom properties.

Amanda Williams, Group development director at Aster, said: “We have a vision that everyone should have a home. We provide a mix of housing options to meet different needs and this site is no exception. It’s a fantastic opportunity for local people to get on to the property ladder in their own town at a price they can afford.”

Lancaster Park is set just south of the charming market town of Hungerford and surrounded by countryside. Hungerford is approximately eight miles west of Newbury and nine miles east of Marlborough. The M4 is just four miles to the north of the town, making it a perfect location for commuters.

Hungerford is best known today for its antique shops and fairs that adorn the town centre. The town centre is also home to other unique shops, boutiques and many pubs, tea shops and restaurants.

Beyond Hungerford there are a wealth of things to see and do. Highclere Castle lies nine miles to the east and is probably better known as ‘Downton Abbey’ from the TV series. Avebury Stone Circles and Stonehenge are also both easily accessible from Hungerford.

The Kennet and Avon Canal runs through the centre of Hungerford and provides a 20-mile tow path for walking. The Savernake Forest is six miles to the west and the White Horse Hill and Devils Punchbowl are also both easily accessible.
