I want to move to a new home

If you are an existing customer looking to transfer to another Aster property, then the following information will be useful to you.

If you want to move to another property, you will need to place your name on the local council’s housing registerWe get our customers for our homes from the local authority. You'll usually have to bid through a choice-based lettings scheme.

Once you’ve registered, you’ll need to look at the adverts that come out every week and bid on the properties you are interested in. Please make sure you only bid on properties that you are interested in moving to and for which you are eligible.

Remember, even if you are nominated to us by the local council, Aster gets the final say whether you're offered the property.

If you owe Aster any money, you may be automatically refused a move. You may only be allowed to move if you can pay the money you owe Aster in full.

If you are looking to transfer to another property we recommend that you keep a credit on your rent account.  The easiest way to do this is to register with the Aster Group, My Account if you haven’t done so already.

If you are nominated to us for a move we will visit you to inspect your home. If it is in poor condition, we will refuse to move you.

You will be advised what work you need to do to bring your home up to a reasonable standard.

If you have a repair which needs carrying out, please report it to us straight away.

If you have smoked in your home and there are nicotine stains, you will be asked to redecorate the property.

If we agree you can move home, you will need to remove all your possessions.  If you don’t, you will be charged the full cost of the clearance.

Our Moving Out leaflet gives you an idea what condition your home should be in.

Moving home can be expensive so we recommend that you start putting some money to one side to pay for all the things you’ll need to do when you move.

For example, as well as hiring a van or paying a removals company, you’ll need to pay rent in advance and may have to pay for things like curtains, carpets and white goods.

It's quite likely your new home may be ready very quickly. Once you've bid, be prepared to move to your new home quickly.

Visit our applying for a home to rent page to see the whole process; from applying for your new home to signing your tenancy agreement.

We will ask you to pay four weeks’ rent in advance. The property advert will tell you how much the weekly rent is, so you can work out how much rent in advance you need to pay.

Even though you are transferring to another Aster home, you still need to give four weeks’ notice to quit on your current home. The lettings team will go through this with you when we visit you to look at the condition of your home. You can print the notice to quit and send it to us.

When we in inspect your home, a key safe should be put up so you can leave the front door key in there when you move out. It would be appreciated if you could call us on 0333 400 8222 to let us know when you have moved out.

If a key safe has not been fitted please take the keys to a local office. Please label them and place them in the post box on the outside of the office.

Please do not post keys back to us, unless you live in Wiltshire, as all post is delivered to our office in Devizes. You need to bring all your keys back to us at the office by 10am on the Monday that your tenancy ends. If you don’t do this, we will charge you the normal weekly rent until we receive your keys.
