Aster Group donates £6,000 to local food banks

Housing association Aster Group has donated a total of £6,000 to eight food banks across the south and southwest of England.

As a result of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, more people have reportedly been seeking support from food banks for the first time, putting additional pressure on an already stretched service.

The food banks, which received £750 each, include Devizes and District food bank, Andover food bank, Romsey food bank, Ringwood food bank, Frome food bank, Glastonbury food bank, Weymouth food bank and Portland food bank.

Darren Brazil, Regional Operations Director at Aster Group, said: “We’ve seen first-hand what a fantastic job the volunteers at these food banks do for their communities, and sadly how much the need for support has increased each year.

“We hope our contribution helped the volunteers to continue to support the increasing need of those in their local communities.”

Aster Group has supported community food banks across its operating areas with donations totalling more than £19,000 in recent years.

Alongside food and financial donations to food banks, Aster’s Financial Wellbeing team helps its customers access the right benefits and support available to them. The team empowers customers to understand their financial circumstances and manage their budgets.

The Aster Foundation also supports customers with full benefits checks, budgeting advice, help to find employment and a Digital College which delivers accredited learning online.
