“I’ve been able to secure a property with fantastic sized bedrooms and garden for Heidi to run around in."

A single father from Swindon has managed to secure a shared ownership home, just in time for a fantastic start to the New Year.

After living in military housing in Norfolk as part of his job in the RAF and separating from his wife four years ago, Scott Paul Manderson (34) wanted to find a home to be closer to his daughter, Heidi (five), in Swindon. However, Scott found buying a suitable property on his single income very difficult.

After researching different houses in the Wiltshire area, Scott came across the option of shared ownership from Aster Homes. Shared ownership allows people looking to own their own home to buy a share (25% to 75% of the home’s value) and pay rent on the remaining share, making it an affordable option for buyers on single incomes.

He picked up the keys to his two-bedroom, semi-detached home in Swindon on 17 December, just in time to spend Christmas and New Year with his daughter.

Scott commented: “I certainly didn’t plan to buy a home on my own in my thirties which makes saving for a deposit and budgeting for monthly repayments quite difficult. I was looking at a lot of homes in the area of Wiltshire but found the house prices to be too high for my single income.

“Through shared ownership, I’ve been able to secure a property with fantastic sized bedrooms and garden for Heidi to run around in.

“The standard of the finishings and little touches have also been completed to a very high standard- buying an affordable home doesn’t mean you have to compromise on quality”

Amy Nettleton, head of sales and marketing for Aster Homes, said: “Being close to your family during the festive period is really important but for many single parents buying a new home in the current property market can seem daunting.

“Shared ownership is often a great solution for buyers on a single income and provides a platform for them to eventually own the property outright.”
