ESG 2025

This is our sixth Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, where we take stock of our progress since our inaugural report back in 2020. This year, we’ve benchmarked our ESG credentials against the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and also indexed our delivery against the newer Sustainability Reporting Standard (SRS) for social housing.

Welcome to our 2024/25 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report.

This year’s ESG Report showcases our unwavering commitment to creating long-term value for our customers, communities, and the environment. Through our five strategic priorities - repairs and maintenance, investment in our homes, customer experience, new homes, and Enham Trust - we continue to deliver meaningful impact across all three ESG themes.

Once again, we’ve benchmarked our ESG credentials against the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and also indexed our delivery against the newer Sustainability Reporting Standard (SRS) for social housing.

Highlights for this year include:

  • We’ve secured around £5.8 million in government funding to improve energy efficiency in over 700 homes, launched a £20 million retrofit programme with Wates Property Services, and delivered a project achieving biodiversity net gain above statutory requirements.

  • Our joint venture with Thakeham will deliver 120 net zero carbon homes, and we’ve begun work on a community orchard and sensory garden in Enham to support wellbeing and biodiversity.

  • Our homes remain affordable compared to private rental markets and Local Housing Allowances, helping people stay in their communities and reducing inequality.

  • We’ve strengthened our approach to customer voice, ensuring residents can hold us to account and shape our services.

  • We’re proud to be the UK’s leading housing association provider of community land trusts partnerships, with 150 homes delivered and nearly 250 more on the way.

  • Our charitable work through the Aster Foundation and Enham Trust positively impacted nearly 9,500 individuals this year.

  • We continue to foster an inclusive and empowering workplace culture through The Aster Way, supported by restorative practice and a refreshed induction and colleague learning offer

  • Our flexible employment offer, continuous appraisal model, and leadership development pathways ensure colleagues thrive.

  • Our governance is anchored in customer-led accountability and strategic oversight. Our newly formed Customer Voice Committee - comprising customers, senior leaders, and board members - ensures that customer perspectives are embedded in executive decision-making and board-level governance.

Together, these achievements reflect our deep-rooted social purpose and our drive to build a future where everyone has a home - and where that home contributes positively to society and the planet.
