With 49% of the 5million plus visitors that come to Cornwall each year being attracted to it as a location because of its events calendar, it’s safe to say that events are big business down in Cornwall. With new ones popping up each year, there’s always something exciting and different on the horizon; we’d know, we’ve attended a few in our time too!

We recently caught up with one of the most refreshing UK lifestyle bloggers out there, Hayley Bisofsky, who has recently moved to Newquay from Central London. We asked Hayley to share with us her thoughts on the best Cornish events to go to. Take a look…

For the music lovers

Boardmasters is the ultimate surf, skate and music festival held in Newquay over 4 days in mid-August. The festival has a heritage that goes back to 1981 and has a capacity of around 60,000. It’s the biggest music festival to hit Cornwall and Newquay is pretty much gridlock for the 4 days that it runs. The main event is on the headland overlooking Watergate bay with surf competitions and skate events occurring on the main Fistral beach in Newquay.

For the foodies

There’s a tonne of food festivals in Cornwall spread out over the year but our favourite is the Porth Leven Food Festival which is held in April. Now in its tenth year it brings together around 30,000 food lovers to this small harbour town. With food demos from world famous chefs as well as local talent, there’s plenty of opportunity to sample food and learn techniques that will brush up on your dinner hosting skills.

Other favourites of ours include the Newyln Fish Festival (Bank holiday at the end of the August), Falmouth oyster festival (mid-October).

For the animal lovers

The Royal Cornwall Show attracts over 130,000 visitors a year in early June and provides a glimpse into rural life in the country. The main ring offers full three days of entrainment as well as a full schedule of activities taking place in the surrounding countryside areas. There’s marquees dedicated to rabbits, goats, poultry and rare breeds. It has come a long way from the first show which was just a ploughing match near Truro over 200 years ago.

For the whimsical

The Great Estate at Scorrier house describes itself as “The most rambunctious Garden Fete”. With a vintage fairground, woodland silent disco, secret gin garden, a tattoo parlor, hot air balloon rides, hot tubs, circus and much more it’s certainly an event that doesn't really fit into any category. It’s a category of its own but a not to miss event held in Early June time. Like their tag line says, “do you dare to follow them into the unknown?”

It’s time to get booking your tickets and planning your diary for the year ahead. There’s so much to see and do here in Cornwall that you won’t be left disappointed.

What’s more, buy a Shared Ownership home from us at The Goldings in Newquay and all of these amazing events are right on your doorstep! You won’t want to miss out. We have a couple of shared ownership homes for sale at The Goldings in Newquay, with prices from £74,000 (based on a 40% share), what’s not to love?
