Our Marketing Officer, Gemma Robinson, shares her thoughts on why Somerset could be the perfect place to call home.

How be on? Where you to? Gert lush day innit?

Did you understand that sentence? If you did, the chances are you're fluent in the Somerset lingo, just like me!

If you don't have a clue what the words mean, I just asked how you are, where abouts are you so we can meet up, and said what a lovely day it is!

The West Country dialect is still super popular and became most famous after The Wurzels topped the UK music charts with their rendition of Combine Harvester. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out on a treat – have ee a look ‘ere.

Most recently, the Somerset lingo and oo-arrs have been seen in the hilarious comedy movie, Hot Fuzz, which was filmed in Wells and is home to one of Aster’s HQ and also to one of our new-build home developments, Bishops Green.

Bishops Green is a fantastic selection of 2 & 3 bedroom new build homes which will be available soon for shared ownership sale in Wells (England’s smallest city don’t you know!)  Our new development is only two miles away from Wells city centre, yet super close to the cities of Bristol and Bath which are only an hour away. Want to know more and how you can get in the property ladder from as little as £86K (yes, really, as little as that…in Wells!) get in touch with our sales negotiator, Matt Hale on matt.hale@aster.co.uk. Matt is our new sales negotiator for Somerset and Wiltshire and having come from our resales team, he sure knows a lot about shared ownership and the homes available in the area! Here's Matt's thoughts on this new development:

'Bishops Green in Wells is a great place for families, couples & singles to live. It is close to the high street, which has a good selection of cafés, restaurants and pubs. It has brilliant road links to Bristol, Bath and Frome and is less than 10 miles from Clarks Village shopping Outlet.'

We have no doubt that this development will be popular so register your interest ready for the launch which will happen VERY soon!

Other popular TV and film characters, including Hagrid in the Harry Potter series and Little Britain character Vicky Pollard can also be heard with a super strong West Country accent. The popular Vicky Pollard in the series Little Britain came from a fictitious town called Darkley Noone, which is shown to be in Bristol and she often refers to places within the Bristol area, such as Fishponds, the Broadmead Shopping Centre and Wookey Hole (which is actually just outside Wells and a great day out for all the family!)

Not too far from Bristol City Centre, you can find also find one of our popular developments, Bilbie Green in Keynsham. With Bristol being officially rated the best place to live in the UK (voted by the Sunday Times); Bilbie Green is one of the best places to be – don’t just take our word for it, just ask Nicci Stone, one of our sales negotiators! This popular development sold out very quickly, so keep your eyes peeled and register your interest ready for the next phase coming later this year.

Take a trip down south on the M5 and you’ll reach the wonderful town of Taunton, which is a hive of activity and a great place for a little retail therapy. Our new-build homes at Abbeyvale in Bishops Hull, Taunton are great place to call home. With 3-bed homes from £88K they are a great choice for families and for the combine ‘arvester lovers out there and in true Zummerzet style, there’s the great Diggerland in nearby Cullompton, which would make for a gurt lush day out for everyone!

What’s not to love about Zummerzet? Get searching for your perfect shared ownership home in the West Country and you could enjoy summer days in your own garden sipping on a lovely ice cold Zummerzet Thatcher’s Zider (Other ciders are obvs available!) Now all together now… ‘I am a cider drinker!’
