Who doesn’t love coffee, cake and a catch up with a friend? We know we do! Lauren and Gemma from our marketing team headed down to Plymouth to sample some of the lovely cafes in the area, and they weren’t disappointed!
With our shared ownership homes across Devon, we had to pop in and give some hot spots a try!
The Hive, Unit 17 Dark Lake View, Eastover, Plymouth
Now this is a little gem nestled away in Estover, Plymouth. They really pride themselves on having healthy choices available made with fresh ingredients to give you that extra energy boost! There’s protein oats, macro meals and a great choice of smoothies too. We opted for a less healthy option, that was seriously delish! Chocolate brownies and banana cake with a lovely Americano and cup of tea (with almond milk for Lauren!)
The Hive had a lovely chilled vibe, a real rustic, industrial feeling décor with plenty of seating to choose from. Located next to a gym, it’s a great place to refuel and looked to be popular and welcoming for families too. The fact it also has onsite parking with fab views across the fields was a bonus. They also have a great Instagram page – go give them a follow here!
Tudor Rose Tea Rooms, 36 New Street, The Barbican, Plymouth
This tea room was one of our absolute faves! Nestled up the most gorgeous cobbled street, straight through the inside seating areas, you reach the cutest little courtyard garden. You wouldn’t believe you were in a busy tourist area as it feels very secluded. We were super lucky with the weather making it the perfect day to sit in the garden. We ordered a sandwich platter and a slice of carrot cake, both perfect portion size and delicious. The afternoon tea looked to be a hit with most people ordering this, there were several options from, classic, gluten free or vegan! Perfect for everyone!
The Tudor Rose Tea Rooms is a perfect spot for a special occasion afternoon tea, a catch up with friends, or just a chilled afternoon pit stop. A real hidden gem!
The Flower Café, 46 Southside Street, The Barbican, Plymouth
Now this was an exciting place to visit after seeing all the colourful pictures over on The Flower Cafés Instagram page (take a look here, you’ll see what we mean!) They have a range of hot and cold drinks, yummy cakes and sandwiches to enjoy. They have a lovely pretty courtyard out the back to give you that real alfresco seating area or you can sit inside. We opted for the outside area as it was such a beautiful day (after having a stroll along the Hoe).
The Flower Cafe are famous for their unicorn hot chocolates, and we can see why! Covered in a layer of whipped cream, and sprinkles with colourful hundreds and thousands (with party rings on the side!) it was certainly a treat for the eyes and probably a firm favourite with kids and unicorn fans! So, we opted for a hot choc as opposed to a coffee here after seeing everyone else enjoy theirs we needed to sample one for ourselves! Gemma was in her element enjoying this sweet treat, you need to try one!!
Choccacino 58 Southside, The Barbican, Plymouth
If you follow Chocaccino on Insta you will see it’s a chocoholics dream! Inside is filled with chocolate; from cakes, brownies to artisan chocolates everywhere you turn. We were spoilt for choice but opted for a caramel brownie layer cake which was enormous in size! With milkshakes, hot chocolates, cream teas and coffees on the menu to wash the chocolate down. A pudding platter is a great way to have a taste of 3 chocolate puddings all for £11.95!
Just like Mummas 167 Plymstock Road, Oreston, Plymouth
Just like Mumma’s is another amazing find! The character and charming interiors are so complimentary of the area. Located near the local school this makes for a perfect pit stop! The owners are mother and daughter who are award winners with their bakes, and rightly so! I had the Coffee & Walnut cake and Gemma the Lemon Drizzle. DEVINE! In fact, I’m drooling now thinking of how good this cake was! Got a birthday coming up? They also bake to order!!
So there we have it, 5 lovely places to visit in Plymouth for a quick refuel with friends or family.
