National recognition for Rosalind Hill House transformation

Aster Group’s £1 million transformation of Rosalind Hill House in Stockbridge, Hampshire, has received national recognition after Herbert H Drew & Son Limited, the project’s contractor, received a top award from the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

HH Drew took a silver award at the scheme’s annual National Site Awards. Representatives from Aster and Kenn Scaddan Associates, the architects and project managers for the redevelopment, joined HH Drew to accept the award at a ceremony held at The Mermaid Conference and Events Centre in central London.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards recognise sites which have raised the bar for considerate construction. The scheme looks at the measures a site has put in place to be more considerate towards local neighbourhoods, the public, the workforce, and the environment.

The redevelopment of Rosalind Hill House saw the conversion of a partially-occupied housing scheme comprising 15 bedsit units and two one-bedroom flats, into 13 high-quality one-bedroom flats for older and vulnerable people. The new units feature a separate lounge, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. As part of the project, new communal areas have also been provided, including internal mobility scooter storage and re-charging facilities.

Mike McCarthy, Aster Group operations director (property investment), said: “We worked closely with HH Drew throughout the redevelopment of Rosalind Hill House to keep people living at the scheme and in neighbouring properties fully up-to-date on the project’s progress.

“It is our vision that everyone should have a home and, to help us achieve this, we have looked closely at our existing properties to see if they are being used in the most efficient way. The old Rosalind Hill House was reaching the end of its life, but this project has revitalised it, providing high-quality new homes which will make a real difference to the lives of the elderly and vulnerable customers who live in them.

“Being recognised nationally by the Considerate Constructors Scheme is an excellent achievement and we would like to pass on our congratulations to HH Drew, and our thanks for all their hard work in transforming Rosalind Hill House.”

Shane Kirby, commercial manager of HH Drew, said: “Winning a National Site Award is an exceptional achievement for our company and our project team. It is incredibly important that we continue to contribute towards improving the image of construction. We hope to collaborate with Aster again in the future.”
