Our social purpose

We will always have a social purpose – it’s the way we work. There has never been a greater need to innovate to provide good quality housing at sensible prices across the country. And, we know that helping to end the nation’s housing crisis is the biggest impact we can have on society.

However, we also have the strength, skills and ambition to do more. So, we have committed to giving something back through the Aster Foundation.


Aster Foundation

Aster Foundation draws a distinction between our core business as a developer and landlord, and the discretionary work we choose to do which benefits society.

We have based our work around four pledges to help us prioritise what we do:


We will keep our impact on the environment to a minimum and make decisions today that make sense for the future.

We will fund initiatives through our commercial activity and adapt, develop and evolve as a business so we can continue to meet our social purpose.

Examples of the Aster Foundation commitments include supporting our customers and communities by:

  • providing a minimum of 20 work placements and 20 volunteering opportunities across the business for our customers
  • making debt and benefit advice accessible for all our customers
  • providing a hardship fund that supports those customers who are in the most need
  • supporting initiatives that improve school attendance in our local communities
  • providing funding to subsidise rural housing schemes
  • giving something back by gifting 150 days of employee volunteering time and supporting employee fundraising activity through match-funding.

Our results so far...

We've had some great results so far. 

Including a number of colleagues taking a paid days' leave to volunteer for an organisation of their choice, an increase in the amount of chairty work our colleagues have completed thanks to match funding and a rise in our ability to work flexibly.

We match fund our colleagues fundraising efforts up to £200. Our pledge is £20,000.

Providing colleagues with IT equipment to support flexible working. Our pledge is 85% of colleagues. 

Apprenticeship placements 0

Generating apprenticeship opportunities within Aster. Our pledge is 12 placements.

Our innovation fund enables us to develop an innovative culture. Our pledge is £100,000.
